Cordia Defeats Owsley County in All “A” Classic Matchup

Naz Welch scored 30 points in the Lions’ victory over the Owls.

The Cordia Lions defeated the Owsley County Owls 60-54 on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the 14th Region All “A” Classic.

In the First Quarter:

Owsley County’s Dylan Watts scored seven points. For Cordia, 6-foot-0 senior guard Naz Welch scored five points. After the first quarter, the Owls led 14-8.

In the Second Quarter:

Naz Welch tallied 11 of the Lions’ 14 points, but Coach Gary Bowling’s team hit three 3-pointers and extended their lead. Going into the third quarter, Owsley County led 31-22.

In the Third Quarter:

Senior forward Andrew Noe tallied 10 points for the Owls. For Cordia, Nzair Welch, Naz Welch, and Donavan Stidham each scored. With one quarter remaining, the Owls led 45-37.

In the Fourth Quarter:

The Lions made four 3-pointers, and outscored Owsley County 23-9. The final score was 60-54 in favor of Cordia.

With the victory, the Lions will play the Breathitt County Bobcats in the semifinals.
