The Southeastern Conference announced Monday that Brooklyn DeLeye is the SEC Freshman of the Week, Emma Grome is the SEC Setter of the Week and Eleanor Beavin is the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. It is the first time this season UK has had three weekly award winners.
Outside hitter Brooklyn DeLeye ran her streak of consecutive matches with 10+ kills to four as she led Kentucky with 18 kills Friday night and 19 kills Sunday afternoon. She averaged 4.63 kills per set and with her third-straight double-double vs. Mizzou, became UK’s first freshman to have three-straight double-doubles since AVCA National Player of the Year Madison Lilley did it in 2017. DeLeye also had an ace in both matches on the week and was the leading point-scorer for both teams in both matches played this weekend. In serve receive, DeLeye was targeted a total of 48 times, and committed zero reception errors.
Junior libero Eleanor Beavin averaged a mammoth 5.00 digs per set this weekend as Kentucky won two four-set matches with Mizzou and Ole Miss. Friday evening, Beavin logged a new season-high 23 digs, tying her career high set last season vs. Auburn. IT was her second match this season with 20+ digs, with the other coming in a five-set match. The junior also had 17 digs Sunday afternoon, which marks the 14th-straight match she has recorded 10+ digs, marking every match for Kentucky this season. Beavin also led UK with two aces Sunday afternoon and sprinkled in an ace vs. Mizzou to push UK to 5-1 in the SEC.
Junior setter Emma Grome paced the Kentucky offense to a .331 hitting percentage over the weekend, averaging 13.75 assists per set in the process. Grome had 50+ assists in both matches, becoming the eighth player in Kentucky Volleyball history to record 3,000 career assists in the process on Friday evening vs. Missouri. Grome had 110 assists on the weekend with 57 assists Friday night in a 3-1 win over Missouri and 53 assists in a 3-1 win over Ole Miss. The native of Loveland, Ohio aced her opponents three times and she had 10+ digs in both matches, tallying her second and third double-doubles of the season.
