The scheduled series with Bradley canceled, the Wildcats now will host Norfolk State and Oakland on Saturday and Sunday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – March 5, 2020
Kentucky baseball’s scheduled series this weekend against Bradley University has been canceled so the Braves’ program can attend memorial services for former pitcher Mitch Janssen, the schools announced on Thursday.
The Wildcats now will host Norfolk State on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET and Oakland University in a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. with both games scheduled for nine innings. There will be no Friday game. The series with Bradley will not be rescheduled.
“On behalf of Kentucky baseball and all of Big Blue Nation we offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Janssen family, Bradley baseball and the entire Bradley University community,” UK head coach Nick Mingione said.
“We’d also like to thank Norfolk State, Oakland and Eastern Kentucky for their cooperation and flexibility in scheduling alternative games this weekend. We’re very appreciative of their efforts on short notice.”
UK baseball season ticket holders who plan to attend this weekend will use their original tickets for the Saturday and Sunday games, respectively. Single game purchasers may use their purchased tickets for the date of purchase. One ticket will secure entry into both of Sunday’s games with the second game starting approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. Gates will open one hour prior to first pitch on both days. For additional ticket questions, contact the UK Ticket Office at 800-928-2287 (Option 4).
All three games will be broadcast on SECN+ and on 98.5 FM radio in Lexington. Any changes will be released on UKAthletics.com and UK baseball’s social media channels.
Janssen was one of three victims of a small plane crash outside of Lincoln, Ill., Tuesday morning. A 2019 Bradley University graduate with his degree in Family Consumer Science, Janssen was a four-year letterwinner for the Bradley Baseball program from 2016-19. As a senior last season, while teaming with 18 members of the current Bradley team, Janssen earned All-Missouri Valley Conference second-team honors as a starting pitcher.
