LEXINGTON – October 24, 2026 – Evan Miller

The 6-1 Kentucky Wildcats came back to the Commonwealth tonight looking to continue their hot streak in the SEC against the 3-4 Vanderbilt Commodores. The Cats avoided the conference trap game and continued their hot streak, as they were able to sink Vandy’s ship in spectacular fashion. Keep reading to get the details of the game.

The Kentucky offense started off very sluggish tonight, as the Cats looked to be in dire straits as they were unable to tally a first down till midway through the second quarter. The story changed during that quarter, as Kentucky put together a solid drive where they established the run and got the pass game going. From there on out the Wildcats went ballistic, as they scored 34 points to Vanderbilt’s 17; scoring from a variety of formations and plays. Kenny Minchey tallied 203 passing yards, a touchdown through the air and on the ground, and earned a passer rating of 151.4. Fifth-year running back Javante Barnes stepped up big after C.J. Baxter went down in the second quarter. He tallied 68 yards on 15 attempts and averaged 4.5 yards a carry.

The Wildcat defense played very well throughout the entirety of the competition. They held the line as much as they could by limiting a big punt return deep into Kentucky territory to just three points during the first. As the offense gained momentum the defense did too, as they forced a punt in the waning minutes of the second to allow the Cats to score again. The defense also won the turnover battle by forcing both a fumble by Mi’quise Humphrey-Grace and an interception by Ty Bryant.

After a sluggish first half, the Wildcats played like what we have come to know them as; a team to watch. Though the offense started slow, the Cats were able to adjust, and they can ride the momentum when they gain it. They were able to score in a multitude of ways, and the offensive play calling looked spectacular once the Cats gained momentum.

Kentucky additionally played great complementary football, as their defense played just as well as (if not better than) their offense. They were able to completely shut down the rushing game; allowing only 15 yards, and the defensive backfield played great coverage throughout the night. The Cats played well in the trenches too as they tallied three sacks tonight and had one QB hurry-up. The defense has also shown an impressive ability to step up when the offense catches a snag, and they can keep the offense in the game till they can get rolling.

After another crazy weekend of Top 25 upsets, Kentucky stays steadfast and braves the trap game in an impressive fashion. If I were to look into my crystal ball, the consistency of the Cats’ play (as well as the major shifts of teams winning and losing) has earned Kentucky a spot in the Top 10; specifically in the range of 10th to sixth place.

The Wildcats get to ride the high of a six-game win streak into the bye week. After the bye, the Wildcats match up against the Tennessee Volunteers in Neyland after dropping a game to South Carolina today. This will be another must-watch matchup as Kentucky keeps rolling.
