On Sunday night, the Knott County Central Patriots defeated the Breathitt County Bobcats 78-69 to win the 14th Region All “A” Classic. The Patriots never trailed and led by double figures for most of the game.
In the First Quarter: Breathitt County made two 3-pointers, but Knott Central’s Colby Napier and Kizer Slone combined to score 15 points. At the end of the opening quarter, the Patriots led 21-9.
In the Second Quarter: Five players scored for Knott County Central, including Scott Shepherd who had six points. Tyler Christy, Bryce Hoskins, and Austin Sperry combined to score all of the Bobcats’ 16 points. The score was 39-25 at halftime.
In the Third Quarter: Napier scored 10 points, while Shepherd tallied five points for the Patriots. For Breathitt County, Sperry led the team in scoring with five points. With one quarter remaining, the score was 56-38 in favor of Knott Central.
In the Fourth Quarter: The Bobcats made seven 3-pointers and tallied more points than they did in the second and third quarters combined. Breathitt County scored 31 points, and junior Jaylen Turner accounted for 10 of them. Napier and senior center Josh McGuire each scored seven points. Despite the Bobcats’ offensive surge, the Patriots emerged victorious 78-69.
