Lee County had three players in double figures as they broke away from an 11-11 first quarter tie to run past the Owls 65-39 in district game in Beattyville. The Bobcats blitz the Owls in the second quarter by a 25-6 margin to gain a 36-17 halftime lead. Bryce Angel, the Bobcats senior guard, nailed three shots from behind the arc to fuel the attack and finished with 15 points. Brayden Peters scored 12 of his total of 19 points in the half. Senior center James Moore used his height and length to huge advantage, scoring baskets and blocking shots. He finished with 19 points.

Owsley, battling some illness as well as a short bench of 2 substitutes, wasn’t able to mount a comeback. Senior Wes Cope managed 15 points but for the most part points were very difficult to score against a mostly man-to-man defense by Lee.

The Bobcats outscored the Owls by 7 in the second half to increase their lead and go on to claim the victory. It was the first district game for both teams, an important game in that seeding determines the brackets for the district tournament in late February. The two will play again January 19 in Booneville.

It was the inaugural Bluegrass Sports Nation (BSN) game broadcast from the Heber Dunaway Gymnasium. With the addition of the Bobcats BSN is now covering games in Lee, Owsley, Breathitt and Wolfe counties.
