Estill County traveled to Hyden on Saturday afternoon for a 14th Region Girls matchup. Estill came into the game at 4-5 and off a win over Jackson City on Friday Night, while Leslie had won three straight at 5-2.
1st QUARTER Sophomore guards Courtney Hoskins and Iris Napier combined for seven points in the first quarter for Leslie County. 8th grade point guard Jayci Long tossed in six points, and junior guard Mia Hale contributed three points. Leslie lead after the end of the first 13-11.
2nd QUARTER Leslie County out scored Estill County 12-8, with sophomore forward Baylee Davidson scoring six points, and Hoskins five. Long and Hale combined for all eight of the Lady Engineers’ points. At the half, Leslie extended the lead to 25-19.
3rd QUARTER The Lady Engineers cut into the lead early behind the stellar play of Long, as she accounted for 6 points. However, the balanced attack from Davidson, Iris Napier, and Hoskins drove the Lady Eagles offense and extend the lead to 38-31 at the end of the third.
4th QUARTER Leslie out scored Estill 14-8 and and sealed the victory. Hoskins continued to ignite the offense with an early 3-pointer on her way to seven points and her game-high 18. When the final horn sounded the Lady Eagles were victorious by a final of 52-39.
