Louisville, Ky – November 4, 2023 – Matthew Hudson

A beautiful fall day saw the Cardinals come home once again to L&N Stadium, still riding the momentum of the big shoutout win against Duke last week. The atmosphere in Louisville is much different now then at the beginning of the year. What was once quiet optimism has now turned into open confidence as the players, coaches, and even the fans expect to win not only this game but the conference. This year has turned out to be special so far for the Cards and the whole community is behind them.

The Cardinals dominated this one from beginning to end. The Louisville Defense dominated throughout and held Virginia Tech to just 3 points in the game. The 1st quarter the Cardinals made it a point to establish the running game and quickly ran up a 14-0 lead. With 4 starters out on Offense the Cards were worried their production may slip against the Hokies. 34 points later and the Cardinals should be very satisfied with how the backups were able to move the ball.

The Cardinals play the Virginia Cavaliers at home next Thursday and will try to improve their record to an outstanding 9-1 record in Coach Jeff Brohm’s first year at the helm.

Jack Plummers stats won’t blow you away this game but he was especially good at controlling the offense and make changes as needed. He finished the day a very efficient 11-12 passing with 141 yards and 1 TD.

The Cardinals outstanding running back Jawhar Jordan was a gametime decision due to a lingering injury. While he did play Jordan was used very sparingly. Isaac Guerendo was the premier back for the Cardinals today and he made the most of his opportunity. Guerendo finished with 146 yards rushing and 3 rushing TDS.

Louisville was led on defense by TJ Quinn with 5 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 INT. The defense only allowed 140 total yards to the Hokies all day and for the 2nd week in a row you can see how the Cardinals could be a threat to the ACC title.

1st Quarter

Louisville scores on their opening drive, their 7th game of the year that they have scored on their first drive of the game. The drive went 9 plays for 49 yards finished with a 1-yard TD run by Jawhar Jordan. Louisville strikes first, takes the early 7-0 lead.

2nd Quarter

Strong running by Isaac Guerendo leads to another Cards TD just 8 seconds into the 2nd quarter. With runs of 27 and 39-yards on the drive, Guerendo already with 76 yards in the game and 1 TD. Cards up 14-0 over the Hokies.

Virginia Tech is able to add on a FG as time expires in the 1st Half. After a strong 53 yard drive the Hokies run out of time and settle for a 44-yard FG by John Love. Louisville goes into the half leading 14-3.

 3rd Quarter

Jack Plummer gets his first TD of the game with 9:38 left in the 3rd. Plummer connected with Jadon Thompson for a 37-yard TD to extend the Cardinal lead to 21-7.

Isaac Guerendo continues to have his best day as a Cardinal and tacks on another TD to his already impressive day. A 12-yard TD carry by Guerendo makes the score 27-3 in favor of the Cards.

4th Quarter Guerendo once again for the Cards. 36-yard TD carry to make the score Louisville 34 to the Hokies 3
