JACKSON – March 10, 2021 – Brendon D. Miller
Jackson City and Hazard staged an excellent ball game at the J.B. Goff Gynmnasium on Tuesday Night. Jackson come into the game with a little momentum off a 68-61 win over East Ridge on Saturday. Hazard was also coming off a win over Buckhorn on Monday Night 49-47.
Jackson’s Junior standout BreAnna Tincher was honored before the game for scoring her 2,000th career point on Saturday. Tincher is currently the leading scorer in the state at 32.3 points per game.
The game was nip and tuck from the beginning as the teams matched scores in each the 1st quarter at the half. Jackson took a two point lead to the 4th, and the game was tied at 43 with 13 seconds to go as Annie Harris hit one of two at the line for the Lady Bulldogs to give them a one point lead. Riley Turner took the inbounds, and with most of the Hazard attention on Tincher, drove the length of the court and got to the basket with a driving layup for the game-winner with six second on the clock. Hazard was unable to convert on their final possession, and the Lady Tigers celebrated their sixth win of the season.
1ST QUARTER Tincher scored nine in the quarter, and also picked up two fouls on Hazard leading scorer and rebounder Harris. Riley Turner hit the only 3-pointer for the Lady Tigers in the game. Hazard got a 3-pointer from Libby Danner who had four, and baskets from Harris, Destiny Huff, Taylor Couch, and Chelsea Profitt. End of the 1st, the teams were tied at 12.
2nd QUARTER Mallory Combs led the Lady Bulldogs with five, while Hayley Smith hit a 3-pointer and Huff added a basket. Tincher and Turner each had four for Jackson and Addie Turner had a basket. The quarter was marred by what appeared to be a serious knee injury to Hazard’s Chelsea Profitt. Our prayers are with Chelsea, as I am informed she will be going for an MRI this morning. At the half, the score was tied at 22.
3rd QUARTER Harris was back on the floor and asserted herself with three baskets in the paint and totaled seven. Tincher tallied ten including four of four at the line. Headed to the 4th, the Tigers were ahead by two, 34-32.
4th QUARTER Harris had seven more to total her team-high 16 and Combs added three. Tincher closed with seven for her game-high 30, while Turner had four including her dramatic game winner!
Tincher was 12 of 13 at the line on the night.
