NASCAR Cup Series traveled to Thunder Valley for the Second Annual Food City Dirt Race hosted by Bristol Motor Speedway. This event will be the 9th points scheduled race of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Season.
The dirt surface/compound provided less traction than a traditional concrete or asphalt track and presented different challenges in terms of managing the tires. Tire tread display a block pattern to present a tighter traction for racing. Goodyear upgraded tire design to adapt to variable track condition which may impose upon the New Gen Car.
Bristol dumped more than 2,300 truckloads of Tennessee red clay upon concrete 0.533-mile Coliseum. After event, the clay base will be removed and saved at an onsite location for future track utilization. Historically marks the first time since NASCAR’s 1949 inception the Cup Series deliberately chose the date of Easter Sunday for stated race event
Attention was placed on dirt track ringers and expectation of securing a covenant victory Sword.

Young gun Tyler Reddick in quest of his first NASCAR Cup Series career trophy paced the field for the final restart with only 24 laps remaining.
Untimely for Reddick, lapped traffic allowed Chase Briscoe to advance to challenge for win. Briscoe slide job attempt on the exit of turn 3 resulted a few car-widths wider than planned. The valiant bump n run misfired as of Briscoe’s Ford momentum confronted Reddick’s door panel.
Both contenders spun out of control while Kyle Busch, who was running a distant third, cruised to the win.
Joey Logano finished third, 4.004s behind the race winner. Kyle Larson was fourth, followed by Ryan Blaney, Alex Bowman, Christopher Bell, Chase Elliott, Michael McDowell and Ty Dillon close out the top 10.
Dominating 99 of the 250 laps at the Bullring, Tyler Reddick finishes a disappointing 22nd position and denied career maiden win.
Kyle Busch checked off his 60th career victory, ninth-most all-time and most among NASCAR Cup active drivers. Rowdy’s victory remarkably tied Richard Petty’s series record streak of 18 years with at least one trip to victory lane.
