Tigers Edge Owls In O.T.

Jackson, Ky – February 13, 2024 – Deron Mays

Owsley County and Jackson City have had some very close games over the last two years and the game in Jackson Tuesday was no different.

Owsley led 24-17 at the half but the Tigers used a 17-10 advantage in the third quarter to tie the game at 34. Nothing was settled in the fourth quarter as both teams scored 8 points to make the score 42-42 and send the game into overtime. In the OT the Tigers outscored the Owls 8-7 and the final score was Jackson City 50 Owsley County 49.

Wes Cope led Owsley in scoring with 20 points. Dylan Gay scored 10 points, Jake McCoy 9, Mason Smith 6, and Chase Pryse 4.

Braxton Jett was high scorer for the Tigers with 17 points. Jacob Morgan scored 8 points, Paxton Howard 8, Evan Phipps 5, Payton Tharpe 5, Gavin Ritchie 3, Gage Ellis 2 and Preston Turner 2.

One notable statistical difference from the game between the Owls and Tiger when they played in Booneville was in that game Owsley made fifteen 3-pointers and Jackson City made ten for a total of 25 made by both teams. In the Jackson game the Owls made three and the Tigers 2 for a combined total of five.

Owsley’s next game is Monday at Oneida Baptist Institute and Jackson City will host Williamsburg Friday.
