Kentucky WBB ranks eighth nationally in total attendance, 14th in average attendance
LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the 14th straight season, the University of Kentucky women’s basketball team ranked in the top 25 nationally in average attendance, sitting 14th overall with 5,213 fans per home game during the 2016-17 season.

Overall in 20 homes games – including one inside Rupp Arena – Kentucky amassed a total attendance of 104,252, which ranked eighth nationally in 2016-17. The season marked the sixth straight year the Wildcats have surpassed 100,000 in total attendance.

The high attendance numbers in large part can be attributed to one of the highest attended home games in program history in December. Kentucky had 13,225 fans in Rupp Arena on Dec. 11 against Arizona State, which was the eighth-largest home crowd in program history.

Kentucky’s attendance numbers have reached impressive heights the last eight years as the Wildcats have averaged 5,000 or more fans each season, while seven of the eight most-attended home games in program history have all come the past few years under head coach Matthew Mitchell.

The Wildcats drew big crowds all across the country, not just in Lexington, as a total of 177,447 fans saw Kentucky play during the 2016-17 season, which ranked eighth nationally.

The Southeastern Conference paced the nation in total attendance with 966,639 fans and average attendance with 4,221 fans per game. The next closest conference in total attendance was the Big 12 with 750,104 fans.
