Wolfe County headed to the Food City WYMT Mountain Classic on a three game win streak, and definitely looking like the team that was a preseason 14th Region favorite. The Wolves continued their impressive play by jumping on the Buckhorn Wildcats early and rode both their offense and improving defense to an impressive 75-43 win on Tuesday Night. The Wolves head on to the Semi-Finals on Saturday afternoon.
1st QUARTER Elijah Tolson led the early charge for the Wolves starting the game with three 3-pointers and 11 points in the period. Jaz Johnson, Sawyer Thompson, Sylar Ritchie and Andrew Mayabb each had a bucket. Christian Collins led the Wildcats with six and Logan Stidham scored the remaining four. End of the 1st, Wolfe was up 20-10.
2nd QUARTER Freshman Ritchie came up big with six in the paint for the Wolves. Hayden Neace had two buckets for the Wildcats and Collins and Dillon Newberry each had a field goal, as the Wildcats were held to eight in the period. At the half, Wolfe led 34-18.
3rd QUARTER The Wolves opened the game up after halftime, out scoring the Wildcats 24-11 in the 3rd. Thompson had nine, Johnson six, and Mr. Energy, Cody Peyton added four. Dylan Knight was high man for Buckhorn with four. Headed to the fourth, Wolfe led 58 – 29.
4th QUARTER Johnson scored seven to total his game-high 17, while dynamic point guard Wilgus Tolson had five of his nine. Collins had four to total his team-high 15, and Neace also had four.
Wolfe County made eight 3-pointers on the night.
