CAMPTON – November 28, 2023 – Brendon D. Miller
Wolfe County and Buckhorn opened up the 2023-24 season with an offensive explosion. Those who love up-tempo basketball were likely thrilled this this game, while proponents of shutdown defense and half-court basketball likely turned to another game. The Wolves used their superior depth to come out on top with the win as nine players scored and four hit double-figures. Both teams rained threes with Wolfe connecting on 13 from downtown, seven of those coming from Freshman Corey Flinchum, while Buckhron sunk seven threes of their own.
1st Quarter Wolfe opened hot from outside the arc hitting five from beyond the arc in the quarter. Flinchum netted two with Cam Oliver, Dalton Voyles and Jayden Hollon each knocking one down. Buckhorn was led in the quarter by Jacob Neace with eight and Brayden Williams hit his first three of the game. End of the quarter, Wolfe was on top 26-16.
2nd Quarter Buckhorn went on a 14 to 4 run to open the quarter and tie the game at 30, behind nine by Hayden Neace, seven from Ethan Huff and five from Williams. Wolfe weathered the run behind five from Flinchum and two baskets a piece by Austin McInnis, Skylar Ritchie and Oliver. At the half, Wolfe led by five, 45-40.
3rd Quarter Wolfe put up 27 in the quarter as Flinchum hit three threes and led with 11, while Ritchie added two buckets. Williams hit his thrid and fourth threes for Buckhorn. Headed to the fourth, Wolfe was up 72-57.
4th Quarter Wolfe flirted with triple digits down the stretch as they put up 22 in the quarter. Oliver added nine to his game total of 19, and Dalton Voyles added seven. Buckhorn fought to the buzzer as Hayden Neace had eight to total his team-high 21, Austin Riley seven, and Jacob Neace six.
