LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville baseball student-athletes Alex Binelas and Reid Detmers were honored once again on Thursday, as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its preseason All-America teams.

Binelas and Detmers were both first team selections. The two Cardinals were previously recognized by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, D1Baseball and Perfect Game, while Detmers also added All-America honors from Baseball America.

The 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year, Detmers returns for his third season in a Louisville uniform in 2020. The southpaw was 13-4 with a 2.78 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 113.1 innings last year, setting the program’s single-season record for strikeouts and tying the mark for wins. Detmers garnered All-American recognition from six different services and was a Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Award semifinalist.

One of the top freshmen in the country in 2019, Binelas is coming off a debut campaign that saw him hit .291 with 14 doubles, 14 home runs and 59 RBIs on his way to Freshman All-America honors. The Oak Creek, Wis., native led the Cardinals in home runs and slugging percentage and was the first UofL freshman to hit 10 home runs in a season since Chris Dominguez in 2007.

Louisville opens the 2020 season Feb. 14 with a three-game series on the road at No. 18 Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. The Cardinals’ home opener is set for Feb. 19 against Wright State at Jim Patterson Stadium.
