RICHMOND, Ky. – Behind a 3-under second round by senior Noah Combs, the Eastern Kentucky University men’s golf team moved from a tie for fifth to first place on the first day of the EKU Intercollegiate sponsored by Raising Cane’s.
Eastern was tied for fifth with Samford, six shots out of first place, after the first round of play on Saturday. The Colonels shaved six shots off their first round score for a 278 in the second round and now lead the field by four shots with 18 holes to play.
EKU has a two round total of 562. Ball State (566) is second. Morehead State (567) and Marshall (567) are tied for third. William & Mary (568) and Dayton (568) are tied for fifth. Other Ohio Valley Conference schools competing in the event include Southern Illinois Edwardsville (T7), Tennessee Tech (T7), Austin Peay (13) and Murray State (14).
The 16-team event is being contested at the par-70, 6,623-yard University Club at Arlington.
Combs began the event with round of 70 and 67. His 36-hole total of 137 is tied for third, just one shot behind Johnny Watts of Ball State and Blake Prince of Cleveland state who are tied for first.
Edvin Lindgren (+2) shot an even-par round of 70 the second time through the course and is tied for 23rd. Will Sallee (+3) improved upon his first round score by five shots for a 1-under 69 and is tied for 30th. Jared Brown (+3) is also tied for 30th.
Five Colonels are playing as individuals led by Erik Lindwall (+1) who is tied for 17th after rounds of 72 and 69
The final round of the 2017 EKU Intercollegiate sponsored by Raising Cane’s will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday at the University Club at Arlington.
