Austin Dillion breaks 68-Race deficit winning a Playoff Ticket at Richmond

Richmond, Virginia – August 11, 2024 – Anthony Holbrook

NASCAR Cup Series locates to Richmond, Virginia for the Cook-Out 400 hosted by Richmond Raceway.  This event will be one of three races remaining for race teams to qualify for the Championship Playoffs.  Nascar will allow race teams to utilize two different tire compounds during the race.  The Option tire is of a softer compound for speed grip whereas the Regular tire composes of longer tire wear without speed rating as of the Option tire.    Only two sets of Option tires (soft) will be supplied to each team to exercise to their discretion.    Veteran’s Denny Hamlin will lad the field with Martin Truex Jr. ridding shotgun for 400 laps at Richmond.

Cook-Out 400 – Stage 1 Recap:

Christopher Bell navigates to the front and has his sights for race leader Denny Hamlin.   Christopher Bell overtakes Hamlin securing the lead with the outside lane with 24 laps remaining in Stage 1.

Daniel Suarez race team will be the first team to employ the Option tire.  The tread composure assisted Suarez to elevate from 16th running position to lead the pack in contention to win Stage 2.

A final pit stop recycles Daniel Suarez to lead the field to Stage 2 Checkers.

Cook-Out 400 – Final Stage Recap:

Counting 30 Laps from scheduled completion, Austin Dillion contest Denny Hamlin’s lead in the final Stage segment.  Dillion clears Hamlin sharpshooting the lower lane to his advantage.

An approaching Daniel Suarez, on his final set of Option tires, proceeds to the front and a considerable threat to the competitors on regular tires.

Fighting fire with fire, Autin Dillion dives into pit lane after an unfortunate Caution flag involving Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Ryan Preece.  AD will hook up with a final set of Option tires with 2 laps to endure any challenges from any checker flag contenders.

Joey Logamo emerges to lead the field with 1 lap remaining.  With very few sands left in the hourglass and fewer playoff tickets obtainable, Austin Dillion attempts a controversy move.

Austin’s front bumper-horn bolts race leader Joey Logano out of line while additionally collecting Denny Hamlin in the domino effect.

Checkers or Wreckers, Austin Dillion snapped a 68-race winless streak and received a Playoff Sticker winning the Cook-Out 400 at Richmond.
