April 25, 2020 – Bluegrass Sports Nation

With the first pick of the seventh round, the Bengals drafted another linebacker. This time, it was Purdue linebacker Markus Bailey. This marks the third linebacker the Bengals have selected in the 2020 Draft as Logan Wilson and Akeem Davis-Gaither were drafted in the third and fourth round respectively.

Linebacker was clearly a position of uncertainty for the Bengals and the franchise hopes they have clarified that position in this draft. Markus Bailey is a 6-foot 235 lb. defender who only played in two games last season due to an injury. However, in the two seasons prior his injury, he tallied an impressive 204 total tackles which included 20 tackles for a loss and 13.5 sacks. In fact, according to sports-reference.com, Markus Bailey led the Big Ten in solo tackles in 2018 and was top five in that category in 2016 and 2017. He also had six interceptions and two forced fumbles during his time with the Boilermakers.
