Bobcats defeat Pirates 28-6

STANTON – August 26, 2022 – Brendon D. Miller

Breathitt survived the grind-it-out ball control offense of the Powell Pirates in Stanton on Friday Night to get win number two on the season. Breathitt rode the legs and right arm of quarterback Tyler Bryant as he scored twice on the ground and threw two touchdown passes. Bryant continued his coming out party during this Senior year completing nine of 19 passes for an even 200 yards, while running nine times for 55. Bryant looked more comfortable in the pocket on Friday night and will continue to develop throughout the season.

The Bobcat defense had to come up big on the first drive as the wing-T offense of Powell County took the opening kickoff and pushed the ball down inside the ten yard line, where the Pirates were stopped on downs. Breathitt then took the ball on a sustained 15 play drive for the opening touchdown which Bryant ran in from nine.

Powell County stuck to their game plan of their ground game running the ball 57 times for 211 yards on the night and posted 16 first downs. Powell lost two of their three fumbles. Powell quarterback Ian McCoy threw the ball five times completeing 1 pass for three yards. Powell was led on the night by Landon Wells who gained 115 yards on 35 carries.
