Colonels Take Unblemished UAC Record to Utah Tech

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Eastern Kentucky University football team is set to take its unbeaten 2-0 United Athletic Conference record to Utah Tech on Saturday at Greater Zion Stadium.
Saturday’s game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. ET kickoff and can be viewed on ESPN+ with Rod Zundel and Deven Osborne on the call. Fans looking to make the trip out west can find tickets on the Trailblazers’ website starting at $10 here.
Additionally, fans can tune in to WCYO 100.7 with Greg Stotelmyer, Jim Tirey, and Wes Chandler on the radio call.
The Colonels (3-4, 2-0 UAC) enter Saturday’s game dropping a close 35-32 game at Gardner-Webb last week.
Linebacker Logan Blake led the squad with 21 total tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble over the Runnin’ Bulldogs. His 21 tackles were the most by a Colonel in a single game since Bob Head during the 1996 season.
Blake’s career day in North Carolina found him named the UAC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season and following EKU’s last three games played. His team-leading 89 tackles this season rank first in the conference and third in NCAA FCS football.
Leading the offensive output was quarterback Parker McKinney, who logged 213 yards in the air to surpass 13,000 total yards of offense in his career. He became the 16th FCS quarterback to accomplish the feat.
– Saturday’s road contest is the first meeting between EKU and Utah Tech. Additionally, it marks the first football game in program history played in Utah.
– Embark on the latter half of its 2023 schedule which features four remaining UAC Conference opponents. After Utah Tech, EKU will host Austin Peay, Stephen F. Austin, and travel to Central Arkansas.
– Running Back Braedon Sloan continues to help the Colonels pack a one-two punch on the ground game. In his last two games he’s recorded six touchdowns and 278 yards of offense.
– Defensive Back Tony Davis grabbed his first career interception in his return to his home state.
– Wide Out Jalen Burbage brought down EKU’s lone touchdown reception and totaled a season-high 90 yards in the loss to GWU.
– Collectively, the Colonels recorded three sacks against the Runnin’ Bulldogs from linebackers Blake, Frank Lee, and Cameron Junior.
– The Trailblazers (2-5, 1-1 UAC) are coming off a close 31-30 loss to North Alabama last Saturday to move to an even 1-1 in league play.
– Utah Tech is led by quarterback Kobe Tracy who’s logged 1,682 yards and 13 touchdown passes in seven games. The redshirt junior from Idaho completed 26-of-40 passes against UNA for three touchdowns and a season-high 397 yards.
– Head Coach Paul Peterson is in his fifth year at the helm with a 17-28 overall record. His squad has two wins on the season against Northern Arizona (50-36) and Stephen F. Austin (37-31).
