EKU schedule highlighted with non-conference matchups at Mississippi State and rival Western Kentucky
RICHMOND – December 12, 2023
Eastern Kentucky and Vice President & Director of Athletics Matt Roan officially announced the full Colonel Football schedule for the 2024 season on Tuesday, morning.
The announcement comes after the United Athletic Conference released the league’s schedule for the Colonels back on Nov. 14.
The 2024 season will mark the fifth season with head coach Walt Wells at the helm, and is set to kick-off in Starkville, Miss. on August 31st as the Colonels head south to take on Mississippi State of the Southeastern Conference.
The matchup marks the second consecutive season that features a foe from the SEC on the schedule for EKU after facing Kentucky in week two of 2023.
Week two of the season features the return of “The Battle of the Bluegrass” as the Colonels head to Bowling Green to face historic arch-rival Western Kentucky on Sept. 7.
The meeting will be the 86th all-time between the two schools with the rivalry dating back to 1914, and the last meeting coming in 2017.
After their home and conference opener against West Georgia on Sept. 14th as previously announced, the Colonels welcome in-state foe Morehead State to Roy Kidd Stadium on Sept. 21.
The meeting between the two commonwealth schools is the first since 2018, when EKU defeated the Eagles, 49-23.
EKU then travels to Texas for a UAC matchup against Stephen F. Austin the following week and then wraps up non-conference play at home on Oct. 5, against Robert Morris of the Big South – Ohio Valley Football Association.
The Colonels will then have a bye week before advancing into the rest of the previously announced conference schedule.
