NASCAR returned to action after an opening weekend displaying Denny Hamlin winning his second straight Daytona 500 and Ryan Newman involved in a death defying crash that sent Newman immediately to the hospital for medical attention. Newman was released from Halifax Medical Center fewer than 48 hours after he was admitted. Ross Chastain took over temporary driving obligations for Newman’s No. 6 car, as the NASCAR Cup Series went to Las Vegas for the Pennzoil 400.
Hometown native Kyle Busch Driver of the #18 Joe Gibbs Toyota was awarded with the pole position after rain interrupted Pole qualifying. Busch’s recent Championship placed his Toyota Camry on the pole as default.
This NASCAR Cup Series will continue utilize both Aero Ducts (Transfer Air from Front Tires) and Tapered Spacers (Reduce Horsepower) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The package will be implemented for Tracks larger than 1 mile and expected to create closer / tighter racing.

Hendrick’s No. 9 Chase Elliott scored his second Stage 1 win Sunday, overtaking Stuart- Haas No. 4 – Kevin Harvick for the lead on Lap 67 of Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Stage 2 Results
Chase Elliott resumed the lead after passing No. 47 Ricky Stenhouse Jr. with 15 laps to go in a dominating fashion claiming the Stage 2 victory for his second stage win of the race Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Pennzoil 400 Final Stage
On Lap 261, Substitute driver Ross Chastain’s No. 6 Ford spun in Turn 2 , bringing out the eighth caution of the afternoon. Shortly thereafter, the final two-lap scramble ended with a multicar crash, on the front stretch to decide the victor at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. With few laps remaining, Joey Logano’s – Penske No. 22 Ford was one of seven lead-lap drivers who gambled and stay out on older tires to utilize track position. Joey Logano rolled the dice and captured victory under Yellow for his 2nd win at Las Vegas.
