Perry Central traveled to Jackson on Tuesday Night to take on 14th Region rival Breathitt County. Perry took the field on a roll during the last two weeks as winners of seven of their last ten. The ‘Dores, a perennial Region favorite, were hit hard by graduation last year as five starters completed their PCC careers. No longer in Red and Black are Braxton Cottongame, who is now pitching in Lexington, and long time starters Ronnie Long , Brody Dixon, Dylan Fields and Parker Estep. An additional blow to this years squad was the arm injury that ended the career of would-be Senior Camron Turner, expected to be the top pitcher in the Region. Time for a reboot at Perry Park and the ‘Dores are young and have battled tough competition to begin the year. But at PCC Coach, Bobby Dixon is not a KHSAA Hall of Famer for nothing, as he continually rebuilds his program and has them at the top of the Region year in and out.
Perry Central came in at 14-7, but most notably, at 8-0 against 14th Region opponents this season. Dixon gave the ball to Junior, Dawson Kersey to extend the momentum. Kersey did not disappoint in going the distance while giving up three hits and striking out seven Bobcats. Kersey also led the ‘Dores at the plate as well going 2 for 3 with 2 runs batted in. Senior Trevor Spurlock reached safely four times in the game with a hit and three walks and scored two runs. Sophomore Hunter Pigman was 2 for 3, scored a run with an RBI, and 8th Grader Mason McAlarnis went 1 for 4, scored once and had an RBI.
Breathitt had hits from Cameron Stacy, Lane Weddle, and Grant Hamilton. 8th Grader, Isaac Bellamy went 3 and two-thirds and took the loss.
Perry moved to 14-8 and 9-0 against 14th Region opponents. Breathitt dropped to 11-11 and 9-6 in Region.
