UK Gymnastics Adds Gianna Ortiz to Class of 2020

Ortiz to join Bunn, Clay, Davis, Magnelli, Zultevicz for 2021 season

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky gymnastics program added another member to its incoming class of 2020 on Thursday with the signing of Orlando, Florida, native Gianna Ortiz.

Ortiz is set to join Bailey Bunn, Carissa Clay, Isabella Magnelli and Krista Zultevicz—who each signed alongside 2020 early enrollee Ashlyn LaClair last November—as well as February signee Hailey Davis for the sextet’s first collegiate season in 2021.

In Lexington, Ortiz will continue her academic career from Olympia High School and athletic career by way of Orlando Metro Gymnastics. Under coaches Jeff Wood and Christi Mitchell, Ortiz achieved notable success at both the state and national level.

Ortiz was an alternate at the U.S. Junior Olympic National Championships in 2019 and a national qualifier at the event in 2018 after finishing 11th on balance beam in 2017. She has competed in every level 10 state and regional meet since 2016, never finishing outside the top 10 on any single event. She posted a total of six top-three finishes across both annual competitions, highlighted by a first-place performance on uneven bars at the 2017 state meet.

Most recently, Ortiz placed first on bars, second on vault and second all-around at the 2020 Tim Rand Invitational.
