Four Bobcats hit Double Figures in QuarterFinal Win

RICHMOND – January 28, 2022 – Brendon D. Miller

Man did the Bobcats put it together on Friday Night. Maybe Breathitt needs to start all their games after 10:30!! In what is probably one of the most impressive performances I have seen from this spectactular collection of talent, Breathitt again, for the second game in the tournament, excelled in the fourth quarter, outscouring Covington Holy Cross 25-12, to advance to Saturday. Senior, Jaylen Turner was the catalyst for the CATS on both ends of the court. Pumping in 17 while also putting in a great defensive effort with multiple steals and a thunderous break away dunk.

Jaylen was not alone as all seven Bobcats who took the floor contributed mightily. Bryce Hoskins was a mountain in the paint with 15 points and 16 boards. Christian Collins was huge down the stretch with 10 of his 13 in the fourth quarter. Luke Bellamy changed the momentum of the game with a buzzer beating three off glass at the end of the 3rd, for three of his 16 and one of his four bombs on the night. Austin Sperry, while not putting up big points, ran the show and continually pressured the Holy Cross defense. Andrew Combs contributed seven on the offensive end, and his defensive pressure on Javier Ward was stellar. Isaac Bellamy gave Coach Noble steady minutes in the second and fourth.

1st Quarter
Breathitt jumped on top in the first behind five from Luke Bellamy, while Turner and Hoskins each had a couple baskets for four. Jacob Meyer hit two threes and had seven for Holy Cross.

2nd Quarter
Combs knocked down a three and led the Bobcats with five while Hoskins added five and Luke knocked down his second three of the night. Meyer and Javier Ward scored all of the Holy Cross points as Meyer netted eight and Ward seven.

3rd Quarter
Holy Cross made their run in the 3rd behind Meyer and Ward. Meyer had two buckets and was five of five from the line for nine, while Ward had three baskets for six. Turner was massive with nine with Hoskins adding four to his total and Luke Bellamy hit his third and fourth threes, the last opening the bank to put the Bobcats up 50-47 head to the fourth.

4th Quarter
Zach Arlinghaus hit a couple treys for Holy Cross, but Breathitt locked down Meyer and Ward. When Turner picked up his fourth foul, Sperry and Collins took up the scoring, repeatedly getting to the rim. Austin tallied all of his seven down the stretch, while Christian lived at the rim.
