Young Bobcats shutout Jenkins in John C. Combs Memorial Middle School Bowl.
HAZARD – August 17, 2019 – Brendon D. Miller
Breathitt Middle School opened their 2019 season on Saturday intent on continuing their winning ways from their first winning season in many years in 2018, finishing 7-2. Many names off of last year’s team are now Freshman at BHS. Names like Hoskins, Bryant, Miller, Ogans, Vanover, Robertson, Hudson, Noble, Rowlett, and Dousay have moved on, and a fresh crop of talent, who go by names like Combs, Gibson, Hall, Barker, Miller, Caudill, Bowling, Turner, and Neace, have moved up from the NorthFork Lumberjacks to fill that void and make their mark on the program. Add them to the holdover 8th graders like Fugate, Turner, Stacy, Spencer, Noble, and Bowling, and newcomers Terry, Roberts and Carpenter, and this year promises to be exciting.
Coming off successful scrimmages at Knott County and against Perry County, the Bobcats headed to Perry County to open the season in the John C. “Punkin” Combs Memorial Middle School Bowl. Jenkins was the opponent and the Bobcats came away with a 32-0 win.
2nd Quarter – BMS – Bowling 20 yard run. PAT converted, Isaac Turner pass from Dylan Stacy. BMS 20 – Jenkins 0.
3rd Quarter – BMS – Brayden Johnson 30 yard reception from Stacy. PAT failed. BMS 26 – Jenkins 0. BMS – Braxton Terry run. PAT Failed. BMS 32 – Jenkins 0.
4th Quarter – No scoring. Final BMS 32 – Jenkins 0.
Breathitt, as has become the standard, played great defense, shutting down the Jenkins offense. Isaac Turner had an interception to set up a score in the 2nd quarter.
Breathitt will go back to work this week and prepare to face Belfry as the travel to Pond Creek next Saturday, August 24th.
