Breathitt Pulls Away in 4th to Overcome WellSpring Guardians

The Bobcats returned to the Fairce O. Woods Coliseum on Monday night after two road wins and the winners of five straight to host the Wellspring Guardians. Wellspring is a homeschool community in Richmond and the Guardians are the organized athletics team for those students. The Guardians played well, and held a lead in the 4th, but Breathitt pulled away down the stretch for the 15 point win, 61-46.

1st QUARTER
Breathitt out-scored Wellspring 10-8 in the 1st period behind balance scoring. Luke Bellamy led with four, while Jaylen Turner, Tyler Christy and Bryce Hoskins each had two. Caleb Foster paced the Guardians with four, while Zack Carpenter hit a 3-pointer for three. End of the 1st, Breathitt led 10-8.

2nd QUARTER
Wellspring took the ball in the paint to Zion Payne in the 2nd, as he netted three field goals for six. Breathitt went to Freshaman, Austin Sperry who led the Bobcats with six. At the half, the teams were locked in a batter with Breathitt up one, 23-22.

3rd QUARTER
After the half, Turner and Christy pumped in 11 of the Bobcats’ 17 in the quarter. Turner netted six with two buckets and Christy hit the Bobcats’ only 3-pointer of the night and had five. Carpenter had eight of his team-high 16 in the quarter. End of the 3rd, Breathitt held a three point lead, 40-37.

4th QUARTER
Sperry just took the game over and had five field goals for ten of his game-high 18. Bellamy was five of six at the line. Ben Rank hit two 3-pointers for the Guardians, but Breathitt held Wellspring to only nine points in the quarter. The Bobcats were seven of 12 at the line to close out the game.

Breathitt improves to 11-2 on the season and are set for Round 2 with 55th District rival Wolfe County on Wednesday Night at the Coliseum!
