On Monday night, the Breathitt County Bobcats began their season against the Lee County Bobcats in the opening round of the 14th Region All “A” Classic.
In the First Quarter:
Six players scored for Breathitt County. Austin Sperry scored six points, Luke Bellamy five, Bryce Hoskins four, Tyler Christy and Andrew Combs each made a 3-pointer, and Jaylen Turner scored two points. The Breathitt Bobcats led 23-11 going into the second quarter.
In the Second Quarter:
The Breathitt Bobcats made five 3’s and had eight players score. Sperry led all Breathitt County scorers with nine points. As for Lee County, sophomore guard Zach Watterson – who ranked third in the state in points per game last season – hit two 3-pointers and scored 14 points. At halftime, Breathitt County led Lee County 62-27.
In the Third Quarter:
Breathitt County extended its lead. Five different Breathitt Bobcats scored, including Sperry who had seven points. The score was 82-35 after three quarters of play.
In the Fourth Quarter:
The Lee County Bobcats made six 3-pointers. Of those six, four were made by freshman guard Conner Williams. Watterson and Bryce Angel made the others. While Williams’ 12 points powered Lee County to a 20-point fourth quarter, the final score was 91-55 in favor of Breathitt County.
Breathitt County is scheduled to play June Buchanan on Wednesday night. That game will be played at Fairce O. Woods Coliseum in the quarterfinals of the 14th Region All “A” Classic. The game will be streamed on the BSN Facebook Page.
