Lady Cats Defeat June Buchanan in 14th Region All “A” Classic

Breathitt County has advanced to the semifinals.

On Wednesday night, the Breathitt County Lady Cats defeated the June Buchanan Lady Crusaders in the quarterfinals of the 14th Region All “A” Classic. The Lady Crusaders made eight 3-pointers, but Breathitt County picked up an 82-41 victory.

In the First Quarter:
Breathitt County’s Adreonna Schutz and Maddie Haddix combined to score 20 points, while Kaylea Ritchie accounted for four points. For the Lady Crusaders, sophomore Kylie Tackett led all scorers with 14 points and Riley Likens tallied five points. With three quarters remaining, the Lady Cats led 24-19.

In the Second Quarter:
Coach Derek Goff’s team took control. Six players scored for Breathitt County, including Kaylee Clemons who made the only 3-pointer of the quarter. At halftime, the score was 47-22.

In the Third Quarter:
Tackett made two 3’s for June Buchanan, but the Lady Cats extended their lead with a 13-point quarter from Schutz. After three quarters of play, Breathitt County led 72-30.

In the Fourth Quarter:
June Buchanan made three 3-pointers en route to an 11-point quarter. For the Lady Cats, Jerrica Neace was the team’s leading scorer with four points. The final score was 82-41 in favor of Breathitt County.

With the victory, the Lady Cats will play Owsley County in the semifinals. The Lady Owls defeated Jackson City in the quarterfinals.
