Wolves outscore LadyCats 29-10 in the second half for the W

JACKSON – December 13, 2022 – Brendon D. Miller

Wolfe and Breathitt renewed their annual roundball 55th District rivalry on Tuesday night with the ladies taking centerstage at the Fairce O. Woods Coliseum. The matchup was definitely a tale of two halves.

Breathitt ruled the first two quarters scoring multiple baskets in transition as Senior Riley Bush piled up 22 of the Ladycats’ 38 in the first half to lead 38-21 at the half. The Lady Wolves turned up the defense in the second half holding Breathitt to only 10 total points in the half. Senior Bailee Wright had 11 in the half, and she and Jasmine Banks (nine in the half) led the comeback. Wolfe climbed all the way back to take the lead 45-44 on a three-pointer by Wright at the 3:42 mark of the fourth quarter. With the score tied at 45, Wright scored a driving layup to put the Lady Wolves up two. Breathitt then scored the next three and took the 48-47 lead on a bucket by Maddie Haddix, with :54 on the clock. Kenzie Miller then did what she does, hit game winners, as she connected from just left of the top of the key with :15 on the clock from three land.

The win puts the Lady Wolves in the driver’s seat for the top seed in the 55th District Tournament in February.

FIRST QUARTER
Breathitt started hot breaking the Wolfe press with Bush scoring six. Emily Neace added two baskets for four, and Maddie Haddix and Brenley Gross each a field goal. Banks had two scores for four and Wright also had four including a three-pointer for the Lady Wolves. Breathitt led 14-9.
